A group of artists committed to high standards and individual creativity.
The 21 Group presents two or three exhibitions of professional work each year in the south Devon and surrounding areas. A wide range of approaches, techniques and media interact creatively with each other to offer viewers a rich variety of images. Whilst much of their work is based upon landscape, other subjects and abstract pieces also feature. The group was formed in 1967, when the late Jane Prout persuaded 20 other forward-looking local painters in and around Totnes to exhibit together. In order to maintain high standards, the group still limits membership to a maximum of 21 artists. More than fifty years on, the 21 Group is one of the longest established exhibiting groups in the South West. Its members are now drawn from a wide area stretching from beyond Exeter in the east, to Cornwall in the west, and northwards towards Okehampton. |
